The Wedding Mass Booklet

First Reading - a reading from the Book of Ruth
Wherever you go, I shall go. Wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God too. Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried beside you. We shall be together forever and our love shall be the gift of life. This is the word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

I have carried you on eagle's wings, I will care for you in your years. My heart is full of peace. You have been within my life. Your guiding hand has always covered me. I am full of confidence in you. (R)

Never need I be afraid. No matter how uncertain things may be. Sometimes thru' me, sometimes in spite of me, you seem to find your purpose in my life. (R)

You have bridged the flowing streams, and moved aside the mountains tall. You have kept me through the stormy past, I know that you secure and guide me still. (R)

Second Reading - a reading from the first letter of St Paul to the Corinthians

Love is always patient and kind, it is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited: it is never rude or selfish: it does not take offence, and it is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other peoples' sins, but delights in the truth: it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes. In short, there are three things that last: faith, hope and love: and the greatest of these is love.

This is the word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, Alleluia!

Anyone who lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.
Glory to you, Lord

Jesus said to His disciples: 'As the Father has ,loved me, so I have loved you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in His love. I have told you this so that my own joy may be in you and your joy complete.

This is my commandment: love one another, as I have loved you'.

This is the Gospel of the Lord

Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
Rite of Marriage

The Address

Jennifer and Robert, you have come to this Church so that the Lord may seal your love in the presence of the priest, your families and friends.

Christian marriage is a sacred union, which enriches natural love. It binds those who enter it to be faithful to each other forever; it creates between them a bond that endures for life and cannot be broken; it demands that they love and honour each other, that they accept from God the children that He may give them, and bring them up in His love.

Jennifer and Robert, you are about to celebrate this sacrament. Have you come here of your own free will and choice?

J & R: We have.

Will you love and honour each other, all the days of your lives?

J & R: We will.

Are you willing to accept with love, the children God may send you, and bring them up in accordance with the law of Christ and His church?

J & R: We are.

Declaration of Consent

I invite you then to declare before God and His church your consent to become husband and wife.

Jennifer: I, Jennifer take you Robert as my husband and friend for life, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, all the days of our life.

Robert: I, Robert take you Jennifer as my wife and friend for life, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, all the days of our life.

What God joins together, man must not separate. May the Lordn confirm the consent that you have given and enrich you with His blessings.

Blessing of Rings

Almighty God, bless these rings; symbols of faithfulness and unbroken love. May Jennifer and Robert always be true to each other, may they be one in heart and mind, may they be united in love forever, through Christ our Lord.

Jennifer: Robert, wear this ring as a sign of our love and fidelity. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Robert: Jennifer, wear this ring as a sign of our love and fidelity. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Jennifer and Robert now light their wedding candle as a symbol of the new life they are beginning together.

Prayers of the Faithful:

We pray for Jennifer and Robert, that the Lord, who has brought them together, may help their love grow deeper and deeper each day, filling their lives with happiness and peace. Lord hear us.

We pray for our absent family and friends, and thank them for their support and good wishes. Lord hear us.
We pray for those who mourn whilst we are rejoicing, that in their suffering and loneliness they may experience the strength of God's support. Lord hear us.

We pray for our faithfully departed, that we ourselves have loved, that God will one day unite us again in our eternal home. Lord hear us.

We pray for the private intentions of all here present, that God may see fit to grant their requests. Lord hear us.

Let us now ask God to bless Jennifer and Robert now married in Christ and unite them in love through the sacrament of His body and blood. God our Father, creator of the universe, you made man and woman in your own likeness, and blessed their union. We humbly pray to you for Jennifer and Robert, today united in the Sacrament of Marriage.

May your blessing come upon them. May they find happiness in their love for each other, be blessed in their children and enrich the life of the Church. May they praise you in their days of happiness and turn to you in times of sorrow. May they know the joy of your help on their work and the strength of your presence in their need. May they worship you with the Church and be your witness in the world. May old age come to them in the company of their friends, and may they reach at last the Kingdom of Heaven. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Prayer after Communion

Lord, in your love, you have given us the Eucharist to unite us with one anolther and with you. As you have made Jennifer and Robert one in the Sacrament of Marriage, so now make them one in love for each other. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
